This project has been entitled 幸ちゃん (Sachi-chan). It is a 10 photograph series photographed on medium format film and printed on 8x10 paper. Originally about the exploration of a possible alter ego using my Japanese name Sachi Yoshida, it has evolved to become a project about the strengthening of connection with my Japanese side as a Half-Japanese woman, as well as also considering what it means to be a Half-Japanese woman. Through the photographing of these images, it has coincided with and incited a real strengthening of connection with this side of myself.
Growing up, I would go to Japan every summer and over the years after the ability to go as much had decreased, I felt a bit of a loss of touch with my Japanese side. Partly the loss of language as well as the inability to see my Japanese family as much might have contributed to this. Seeing my Japanese family last winter and not being able to communicate with them as well is what inspired this project.
